Introduction of Programme

On September 20 this year, the Hong Kong City Choir will hold a concert “Salute To Masters Series II” at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre .

Last year, Series I concert has gained a great success. A lot of young audience learned and experienced the art atmosphere and cultural backgrounds from the works of the Hong Kong musical predecessors in the thirties of last century.

The concert this year will put the choral works of masters such as Huang Zi, Qing Zhu, Liu Xuean, Chiang Wen-Yeh, He Luting, etc. as well as some selected evergreen songs from American musicals onto the stage.

Besides, we have the pleasure of having Sharings African Band (S.A.B.) of the Sharings African Drumming Arena (SADA), a team of talented music professionals from various West African countries including Togo, Ghana & Senegal, performing a truly innovative and unforgettable African music for us.

Since 2004, SADA applies African Drumming in corporate team building, whole-person development, mental wellness, rehabilitation support, interactive stage performance, etc across all levels in the society. Accredited by the Hong Kong Association of African Drumming, the “DEEP Drumming Program” by SADA which is a Dynamic,Enlightening, Empowering and Progressive program aiming at unfolding one’s potentials.

Sharings African Band (S.A.B.) under SADA is a team of talented music professionals from various West African countries including Togo, Ghana & Senegal, with accumulated performing experiences in Arts & entertainment that brings the audience a truly innovative and unforgettable African musical experience.

2. LAU WAI YAT, LAURENCE BARITONE

Graduated from the University of Melbourne in Australia, Laurence is at present a dentist. He firstly studied singing with the well-famed soprano, Madam Susanna Chow and then studied with the renowned tenor, Mr. Man Kin Ping. He has obtained the Grade 8 Certificate in Vocal Music from the Royal Schools of Music in United Kingdom as well as the Singing Performance Certificate from the Trinity College of Music in London. Being the chairman of the Hong Kong City Choir, Laurence is also a member of the choir of St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Moreover, he participated in the performances of the famous operas such as “Aida”, “Tosca”, “Der Rosenkavalier”, and “Die Zauberflote” He also appeared as soloist in concerts held in Vancouver, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. In 2011, Laurence successfully held his first vocal recital at the Hong Kong City Hall

3. Hazel Hon Soprano

Hazel Hon

Hazel displayed her notable musical talent at early age. She was understandably very active on performing stages in schools and other music venues in mainland China.

In Hong Kong, she has furthered her studies in vocal techniques under the renowned tenor, Mr. Man Kin Ping. Thus, she has frequently appeared as a soloist or leading voice in a lot of concerts. Amazingly, her repertoire ranges widely from Chinese folk songs, art songs, operatic arias, muscials, to even pop songs.

She won the champianship in the Kowloon City Singing Contest. She is now the leader of the Plaisir Ensemble which won the Gold Diploma, Winner of the Category and Overall winner of chamber choirs in 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition 2011 organized by the INTERKULTUR. The ensemble was ranked 31 of the top 50 female choirs in MUSICA MUNDI WORLD RANKING LIST (year 2011).

Hazel is also the section leader of first soprano of the Hong Kong City Choir and a member of the St. Jude’s Choir in the Church.
